Suprise–suprise!! I thought it was going to be a singing comedy. And as this was not the case, I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised!! I hate to down play the Duke or the others in his partition in the original Stagecoach; but I liked this one –“Better”–Wow I never thought I’d be saying this!!
I never thought I would say it, but….My favorite one is with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Chill Wills.
It also takes place in Arizona, with “Ringo” escaping from Yuma Fed Prison
It’ll never replace the original w/ John Wayne and Barrymore. There were so many song and dance people, I found I couldn’t take it seriously. Finally, at the end, and their last fight w/ the Indians, things began to pick up.
Bing Crosby was born on May 3, 1903. Alex Cord May 3, 1933. interesting fact.
This is the version I prefer. John Wayne was bigger than life but stiff when it came to interacting with women. Alex Cord says everything with his eyes and face. His Ringo is more vulnerable than the Duke’s. And I like that it was the cavalry chasing Dallas out of town for a killing that happened over her than a Woman’s Decency Society. You have to see both movies, but this is the one I really like.
Film is a remake of John Wayne StageCoach, however the cast is made
up with such stars as Slim Pickens, Van Heflin, Ann Margret and Bing Crosby.
Alex Cord does a good job as Ringo Kid, and Mike Connors.
Camera shots are great, with great action included. You cannot go wrong
watching this film, also art work completed by Norman Rockwell. If you
haven’t seen this, highly recommend it.

This was one of my favorite movies, especially with Alan Ladd, I have always liked his movies and his acting, even though small in statue, he outshone the rest. Thanks for the memories and the movies.
